Teaching ideas are works in progress. The ‘perfect’ lesson almost always blindsides you – a serendipitous aligning of so many planets: you, the students, careful planning, a building up of relationships, the right time of day, the slant of the sun through the window at that time of year. It’s invariably a mixture of careful orchestration and dumb luck.
I am not really in the business of ‘perfect’ lessons – though they do occasionally happen. I’m looking to deliver consistently good-enough lessons, lessons which are purposeful, joined-up and engaging to those students who are open to being engaged. Mostly I succeed, often swerving into the disastrous and touching the divine on the way.
This blog is an opportunity for me to reflect on my practice but also to share with the many practitioners out there who have miraculously (do you have time-turners?) found the time to blog their experiences in a way which is both inspiring and immediately useful in the classroom.
